WARNING: Review may include some strong language and some rambling!!!!

Holy F**k!!! Holy Hell, OMG....just oh my f**k.....Freaking WOW!!!!! - That pretty much sums up on my feelings and reaction to Unravelling Oliver.

I have never really thought the opening sentence of a book was enough to have me hooked. Sure there are books with pretty amazing openings but it usually takes more than that to have my attention. Until I read Unravelling Oliver.

"I expected more of a reaction the first time I hit her."

Upon reading that I was 100% hooked onto this story. It is a shocking and slightly disturbing opening line that had me captivated. Unravelling Oliver is a tough one to describe without giving spoilers and I am going to try my hardest to keep this spoiler free because it is something you just have to read and discover for yourself.

Each chapter is told from a different character. Each of them adding to events that lead up to Oliver attacking his wife. The way the author has constructed this story is very refreshing and different. Instead of it being a continuous story like most books are. We delve into Oliver's past to really get a grip of the kind of person he is. Every chapter tells a story and usually I don't like a lot of POV changes but in this case it added to mystery of Oliver. Each character's story was relevant. Granted some were more fascinating that others though but they were all important.

Unravelling Oliver is quite a complex tale. It is dark, disturbing and emotionally charge. I love a good dark and twisted tale so when the publishers offered me a copy I knew I just had to give it a try. However, I didn't expect to love it quite as much because Psychological fiction isn't one of my top genre's to read. The author though, has such a way to tell you the story that you are drawn into this world and with each passing chapter you get a better understanding of why Oliver is such a dark and manipulative monster.

I highly recommend Unravelling Oliver if you are looking for an intriguing tale that is dark and twisted. It is such a quick read that you will end up sitting up into the wee hours just to finish it (like myself). It has opened my mind to picking up more psychological thrillers because I have been in such a weird reading mood lately but this is the first novel in long thing that I have managed read in one sitting!

A massive thank you to Penguin Ireland for giving me this opportunity to read this amazing debut from Liz Nugent. I can't wait to follow this amazing author as I think she is going to be massive. So everyone get onto amazon, book depository, where ever it is you buy your books and buy this gem of book. You will not regret it for a single minute just be prepared to be left flabbergasted by it's awesomeness
